Digit Dog challenges have been created by numeracy consultant, Lynwen Barnsley. The aim of the Digit Dog character is to present mathematical challenges in a way that enthuses young learners and encourages and develops their reasoning skills.
Click on Posts to explore Digit Dog’s mathematical challenges and find ideas for your classroom. The most recent Posts are displayed first – scroll done to find older posts.
If you go to Categories on the right hand side, you will be able to select posts by their subject matter e.g. select Christmas to find all Digit Dog’s festive ideas.
You can find lots of past challenges by searching for Digit Dog on Twitter using @BarnsleyLynwen or #DigitDog
Some of the photos that feature on Twitter are available on the Challenges page of this site and can be saved and used as a starting point for mathematical investigations.
The Booklets page is a growing resource. Here you can find booklets linked to the original challenges with teaching strategies, metacognitive questions, suggestions for developing reasoning skills and further extensions and new investigations.
If you want to find out more about developing reasoning, mathematical thinking and problem solving, go to the Lynwen Barnsley page and see training courses that are currently available. Lynwen is also available for bespoke mathematics training and can be contacted through the Contact page.
